Specialized Foster Care

In some cases, additional time away from a family is needed after a child has completed a residential program. In other cases, initial placement to an alternative family setting may be  the best means of helping a child. Specialized Foster Care is provided to meet the needs of children facing these types of situations.

The families who help children through this program are recruited and trained by Holy Cross Children's Services staff and licensed by the State of Michigan. Foster families work closely with Holy Cross Children's Services staff and the child's natural family to provide support and bring about positive change in the young person's life.

The program is designed for children aged infant to 17 who need an out-of-home placement in a safe, supportive home environment. The child usually receives services for an average of 9-12 months. Supervised Independent Living

Many teens who have successfully completed residential or foster care programs do not have strong family support systems to which they can return. When this occurs, youth are referred to Holy Cross Children's Services's Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program. Designed for boys and girls ages 16-19, SIL enables them to make a successful transition from placement to self-sufficiency in the community. Holy Cross Children's Services staff teach youth how to live independently and provide experiences that lead to increasing self-reliance and self-esteem. For information on becoming an SIL Home Provider (Home Providers provide room & board to an SIL youth for 6-12 months and have weekly contact with the youth's treatment team) or for information about Supervised Independent Living services, contact us , or call (888) 249-7500, ext. 316.

Day Treatment Program

The Day Treatment Family Support Program is a 12-month, community-based intensive family intervention program designed to prevent out-of-home placements of delinquent, neglected and abused adolescents.

Males and females ages 12-17 who have been appropriately assessed and referred by the Genesee County Family Independence Agency are eligible for the program. The program is multidimensional, consisting of a day treatment phase and an intensive in-home family treatment phase.

The program serves approximately 24-36 youth per year and consists of group work/ancillary services and education. Each component of the program is an integral part of the overall treatment process which is designed to maintain children in their homes and provide services to the family.

In-Home Treatment

This program serves males and females ages 12-17 who are court-referred first-time offenders. In-Home Treatment can serve as a diversion to prevent out-of-home placement or as a support to promote family reunification following placement.

Services include family and individual youth therapy, skills training, advocacy for the youth and family, and supervision of probation agreements. Three to six months is the average program duration for a youth.
