Doug Ruesink and Maureen Killian have been with Holy Cross Children’s Services for 15 and 2 years, respectively, teaching World History to students in a unique and exciting way.  Bringing Medieval History to life is never an easy feat, but was accomplished with students at Clinton Campus by engaging them to build castles and suits of armor that were reflective of that era in time.  Each group of students built their own castles from boxes and everyday items using not only the information they were learning, but also their imaginations.  Students responded well to this integration into the curriculum, “more so than simply reading a book or lesson”, says Mr. Ruesink.  Ms. Killian noted “When you give young people the opportunity to use their imagination the sky is the limit and they can see their thoughts in three dimensions.”   Clearly, Doug and Maureen have the knack for helping our students to use their imaginations to succeed in the classroom.  Thanks, Doug and Maureen!
