For the past 10 years, DTE has worked with Holy Cross Children's Services/ Samaritan Center in providing the most economical electric rates and energy efficiency recommendations. In fact, DTE has partnered with HCCS in several key energy efficiency improvement projects at the Samaritan Center including replacing the lighting, boilers, and control system. In 2009, DTE initiated a three year Energy Efficient Rebate Program to encourage all DTE customers to replace old equipment with new high efficiency equipment. HCCS has taken advantage of this program by initiating several equipment replacement projects. For Samaritan Center, these projects mainly include replacement of existing motors with high efficiency motors and variable speed drive (VSD) motor systems. KEMA is representing DTE for the entire rebate application/ equipment validation process. Based on KEMA's calculations, the installation of this high efficiency equipment can reduce Samaritan's electric costs by about $150,000/year!
